Our Philosophy

Our development has an emphasis on stewardship for the wild coast our owners are lucky to call home. We do our utmost to protect the flora, fauna and wildlife that we share our estate with.

The Unique Cottages development includes a heritage site that we honour and protect. Human ancestry dating back three thousand years has been discovered in this heritage site. The developers have designated this area as protected. This powerful history will be a place of remembrance and be cared for within the residential estate.

Through generosity of heart Unique Cottages welcomes social responsibility and we do our best to attract owners that share in these values. Our cottage owners are encouraged to discover the non-profits West Coast Kids (Children’s welfare) and Lexi Gives Back (animal rescue). We regularly keep our owners up to date on the social project in Paternoster and they generously support them by accommodating non-profit project volunteers in their cottages for example.

Diversity in all shapes

The Unique Cottages residential development stands for tolerance. We welcome owners and visitors from every corner of the world and our delighted by the diverse perspectives everyone brings.

We welcome the world in our coastal escape with our currently 25 cottages being represented by more than 10 nationalities of cottage owners. We are family friendly, welcoming both children and pets. We build homes for singles and couples alike and are a LGBTQ+ safe space.

Our determination to respect the indigenous heritage of the Khoikhoi ancestry of our area has motivated us to designate protected heritage sites. To honour the history of this remarkable town we have named our streets after long-standing fishermen families such as Boetsak Losper Street or Awie Coraizen Close. During this naming representatives from the family were present to accept this honour.

We Build Borderless

The Unique Cottages development is borderless, wall-less and fenceless. This is very special in South Africa as in bigger cities the crime does not allow for this. We have a unique advantage of having excellent security presence with watchmen on patrol, CCTV cameras, motion sensors and a security company on-call for emergencies. We also have excellent relationships to the locals in Paternoster, many of whom have their livelihoods supported as employees of Laureate Private Resorts. Employment through us provides hospitality training even to those with little education on paper.

Without borders we send a clear message that we are one with the town, its peoples and its history. Especially for Paternoster’s children, who are supported by our social responsibility partner West Coast Kids, being borderless means making no distinction between the beautiful town they call home and the homes we promise our owners. Walls and fences imply fear and deterrence. We stand for openness and warmth and do not compromise on safety in doing so.

Follow our journey.
